03 Sep Scientific Direction of the Summer School AI4SI 2024: 2-3 September. Donostia-San Sebastian (Spain)
On 2-3 September 2024, I had the honor of directing the Summer Course AI for Social Innovation (AI4SI) in Donostia-San Sebastian, Spain. This unique event brought together participants from diverse backgrounds to discuss the transformative potential of AI in fostering social innovation. The course explored how AI can address global challenges, particularly in the Global South, by enhancing educational access, healthcare delivery, and civic engagement.
Throughout the course, participants engaged in lively discussions on the ethical and practical implications of AI-driven innovations, with a focus on promoting equity and inclusion in global development. I had the opportunity to present recent case studies from AI applications in regions like India, Mexico, and Kenya, demonstrating how AI can contribute to local solutions for global problems.
The course highlighted the need for a socially responsible approach to AI, ensuring that technological advancements are used to empower communities and foster sustainable development. I look forward to continuing the dialogue and furthering research collaborations through the AI4SI initiative as we strive to promote social innovation through AI.
